Maryland saw the biggest one-week uptick in claims, with an increase of 3,619 people filing for benefits for the first time, according to Thursday’s weekly report from the U.S. Labor Department. Illinois’ one-week increase of 3,414 claims filed put it ahead of other states like New Jersey, Michigan and Massachusetts. The largest decreases were in Texas, Florida, Georgia, New York and Oregon.
