The Dow Jones Industrial Average early Monday was trading solidly higher as investors appeared to react to growing clarity on the coming 2020 election and improvement in President Trump’s recovery from coronavirus over the weekend, while former Vice President Joe Biden’s rising lead in the polls suggested a more decisive outcome in the elections. The Dow (DJIA) rose 282 points, or 1%, at 27,951, near the peak, those for the S&P 500 index (SPX) gained 0.9% at 3,380, while the Nasdaq Composite Index (COMP) advanced 1% at 11,183. Uncertainty had rattled markets Friday after Trump announced that he had contracted COVID-19, raising questions about the functioning of the government and the coming race for the White House on Nov. 3.
