Shares of Merck and Walt Disney are posting strong returns Friday morning, lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average into positive territory. The Dow DJIA, +0.91% is trading 282 points higher (0.8%), as shares of Merck MRK, +9.19% and Walt Disney DIS, +3.96% have contributed around 25% of the index’s intraday rally. Merck’s shares are up $7.27 (9.7%) while those of Walt Disney have gained $6.17 (3.7%), combining for a roughly 88-point boost for the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the gain include American Express AXP, +3.07%, IBM IBM, +2.69%, and Microsoft MSFT, +1.60%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow results in a 6.58-point swing.
