Election Day for the municipal runoff elections that will decide two new council members is Saturday.

Here’s what you need to know before heading to vote.

What’s on the ballot

Place 3: Incumbent Lauren Doherty is challenged by Dave Cornette for City Council Place 3. They faced three additional candidates in the May general election, though they garnered more than 80% of the total votes combined. Doherty, who was elected to council in 2018, led the race with just 72 votes over Cornette.

Place 5: Dave Shafer and Philip Brewer head to the runoffs for the vacant seat after receiving more than 87% of the votes, combined, in the general election. Shafer led Brewer with 47.81% of the votes — a 655-vote difference.

The seat has been vacant since mid-February when former Mayor Pro Tem Gary Caplinger resigned days after he arrested on child pornography charges.

When and where to vote

Voters can submit their ballots at the Allen Municipal Courts Facility — located at 301 Century Parkway — though Collin County residents can vote at any polling location within the county.
