Giuliani, who was formerly a top aide to Trump, said he would be taking a few days next week to visit Florida and talk to donors as well as the former president.

“I will be down there next week for a two- to three-day swing, where we’ll be meeting with donors, interviewing potential staff, and speaking to the former president,” he told CNN for a Wednesday report. “From a self-interest standpoint, I want the president to be as involved as he wants to be, but I would still advise him to keep his powder dry and not make a decision on who to support until we get to the fall or next winter.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is up for reelection in 2022 but has not announced whether he will run. With the governor mired in scandal over allegations of sexual harassment, among other issues, many Republicans have seen that race as their opportunity to turn the office red.

Three Republicans have already entered the race, including Rep. Lee Zeldin, Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli, and businessman Derrick Gibson. Giuliani told the Washington Examiner two weeks ago he plans to run.

“Outside of anybody named Trump, I think I have the best chance to win and take the state back, and I think there’s an opportunity in 2022 with a wounded Democratic candidate, whether it’s going to be Gov. Cuomo, whether it’s going to be a radical [Attorney General] Letitia James, whether it’s going to be a no-name lieutenant governor, I think there’s a very, very real chance to win,” he said.

Zeldin garnered $1 million in donations during his first day of campaigning. He visited Trump on April 8, and two unnamed sources told CNN that Trump is leaning toward supporting him.
