JERSEY CITY, NJ – A $700,000, three-year pledge of support by investment management company Lord, Abbet & Co. LLC will mean a brand-new center located in Jersey City and enhancement of the ongoing diverse programming and services offered by Hudson Pride Center (HPC).
“Our team at Hudson Pride is extremely excited to announce the opening of our brand-new center home in the Journal Square area of Jersey City and to one day all be together again safely,” Elizabeth Schedl, Executive Director of Hudson Pride Center. “With the significant financial support from Lord Abbett, we can secure our center’s future while growing our services to meet the continuing needs of our LGBTQ+ community.”
“This partnership is a momentous step for our center and for the years to come,” Schedl added.
Hudson Pride Center has served the LGBTQ+ community in Jersey City and Hudson County for over 25 years. In early 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HPC made the hard decision to relocate out of their offices in CarePoint Christ Hospital and transition all services to remote and virtual. The team has worked hard to reach and connect with all its members, especially the most isolated and vulnerable communities. In doing so, over the past year they have ensured that all members have had access to necessities, social connections, mental health, overall health support/referrals, and safety planning. For now, they will continue to use digital platforms of communication to provide all services.
Reflecting upon Lord Abbett’s efforts, Doug Sieg, Managing Partner, said, “We value all individuals as an organization that is committed to ensuring a sustainable future for our clients, our people, and our world. With this in mind, we’re proud to help fund the building of the new Hudson Pride Center, which aligns with the steps that earned us top marks in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index, the national benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.”
Catherine Tantillo, the firm’s Head of Community Relations, added, “The new Hudson Pride Center will provide the LGBTQ+ community with a safe haven, where they can receive assistance, support, and services. We hope our commitment will enable this important organization to flourish for years to come, and we look forward to building a long-term relationship.”
In addition to the financial contribution, Lord Abbett will work with Hudson Pride Center on future joint programming partnerships that continue to support the LGBTQ+ community members of Jersey City and throughout all of Hudson County.
